State by State Electoral Vote Projections for 2008

One of the most anticipated US Presidential Elections is winding down to its last 50 days of campaigning and everyone seems to be keeping a sharp eye on the ups, downs, and shifts in voter polls. The news networks are busy looking at national poll results that are often too close to call with 48% for one candidate and 51% for another and a standard deviation of plus or minus 5%, which basically means they don't know who is going to win in November.

The truth is the Presidential elections is more like 51 regional elections than it is a single election. Although national polls might give an idea in which direction the country is leaning , it is the state-by-state electoral votes that really determine the winner -- and this one is going to be close.

In my opinion one of the best sites that predicts State Electoral votes is www.electoral-vote.com. This site compiles various statewide polls and combines them to come up with probably the closest projection available. Of course the best source for the election results is the actual Nov 4, 2008 results on election day, but this site has been pretty accurate in determining the 2004 elections. Among other things, the site also gives 2004 vs. 2008 state-by-state comparisons to show where the parties might have either gained or lost a state versus the previous election. Other neat features include graphs showing week by week percentage point trends for the two major candidates, links to other political sites associated with the election process and an intrade site that gives an election projection based on how the market is betting on a state by state basis.

Keep up with the elections at electoral-vote.com and enjoy,

Scribefire for Foxfire Bloggers

If you're a Foxfire blogger who has already heard of Scribefire, than you are probably already using it.

Scribefire is an add-on tool for the Foxfire browser that allows bloggers to write their blogs right within the browser while surfing the net. That in itself makes it easier to research websites while drafting one's post. In fact I'm doing just that right now (see image below)

How it works. Simply write your post within the Scribefire application. When done Bloggers can identify their blog to which they want to post their entry within Scribefire -- it can be from any blogging site such as Blogger, Wordpress, or Typepad. Scribefire will find the blog and will give you the option to either post it as a draft or post it as an entry. In addition, bloggers can choose to create their categories or tags within Scribefire along with the ability to add hyperlinks, images and even videos from Youtube. Everything done within a single application that can then be easily posted on your blog.

If that's not enough, Scribefire also gives its users the ability to share their blogs and other sites using their Share/Promote tool that connects directly to sharing sites such as Technorati, Delicious, Reddit, Propeller, StumbleUpon, Newsvine and more.

If you are casual blogger or an avid blogger, Scribefire is quick, easy and robust enough to handle most posting jobs.

Give it a try and Enjoy,

Jonah

A Million Dollars: Risk Free

How would you invest a million dollars in the stock market?

Here's a chance to invest like a millionaire without the risk of losing a penny. Updown.com is a free online social game site that starts all its players with a million virtual dollars to invest with in real market conditions. The prize is real money based on each player's performance.

This is one game that feels very real. Everything on the site mirrors what actually happens on Wall Street. The stocks and their prices are exactly the same as those available to investors in real life. The ups and downs of the markets matches the rise and fall of the stock prices in real time. But the money you use is all virtual and so are the investments in your portfolio.

The object of the game is to beat the S&P 500's return on investment. If you can beat the market, Updown.com pays you a cash prize -- not a bad return for $0 investment. It's a social game that allows you to interact with other traders on the site as well as learn more about how trade..and the best way to learn is through practice.

If you think your a hot shot investor capable of beating the S&P 500 in this current bear market, you should definitely give this site a try. How many millions will you make? Go here to check it out.

Enjoy,
Jonah

PollDaddy

I've recently made good use of this free online service that allows website owners and bloggers to poll their readers using customized polling widgets.

Polldaddy.com is an online company based in Ireland. The site allows all visitors to create custom polls and surveys with free accounts to track the responses. The polls are easy to build and come with several different features including: offering polls in different languages, choosing display options for answers, and setting a closing date for the poll. Poll creators can easily post their written question, choose multiple choice answers or even allow respondents to write in their answers. In addition, the free account also allows the creation of surveys.

There's no limit to the use and added functionality this tool/widget gives a website or blog. For an example on how I used this polling tool in one of my sites see my Vote Now 2008 blog. But you could also participate with your answer to this poll shown below.

As usual Enjoy,

Vote Now 2008

How will you vote in 2008?

I've started a new blog which I am shamelessly recommending to all my readers. I would like to invite all of you to VoteNow2008. Due to the short amount of time before the US Presidential Election I am heavily trying to drive as many visitors to the site in attempt to gather a large number of voters for a good result. Below is a summary for the site.

Vote Now 2008 is an ambitious attempt to poll online visitors on how they will vote in the 2008 US Presidential Election. Visitors to the blog are asked to participate by anonymously entering their vote under their state of residence. There is also a separate section for international visitors to voice their opinion.

If you like the VoteNow2008 concept, I would appreciate your help in spreading the news by placing a Digg vote here

Enjoy,
Jonah

The Best Way to View Video & Pics on the Web

Last June Cooliris updated their PicLens tool for Firefox users.

The latest version of PicLens 1.7 for Firefox is now available for download as add-on. If you enjoy looking up videos or pictures on such sites as flickr, google, yahoo, and youtube, this is a must own add-on for the Firefox browser.

Using the add-on is simple and very cool. By simply clicking on the PicLens icon, Firefox users will be brought to a new 3D screen that provides a gallery of pictures and videos on a subject of interest. If you're interested in butterflies for example, go to the search button choose a site's library such as flickr.com or youtube.com and PicLens will find all videos and photos that fit that discription on the host site. All qualifying items are then displayed onto your screen with crisp small or large thumbnails that you can scroll through using PicLens' 3D gallery. If you see something you like, simply click on the thumbnail and the item will either enlarge if it's a picture or play if it's a video right on the PicLens screen without even visiting the host site.

PicLens also has a "Discover" button that covers a host of other web items, such as news, photos, videos and even movies.

PicLens is simply the best and easiest way to view videos on the web. I very highly recomend it. Check-out PicLens yourself here. Oh by the way, did I mention it's free.

If you do not have the Firefox browser, you can download the free application from here.

Enjoy!

Rubik's Cube Meets Tilted Twister

This a site is dedicated solely to a robot named Tilted Twister.

Tilted Twister is a Lego Mindstorms robot to be exact and it’s sole purpose is to solve Rubik’s cube problems completely on its own.

The robot was created by the author of the blog, Hans Andersson, and
was made entirely using the items available in a Lego Mindstorms NXT
kit. The site explains how Hans came up with the idea of creating the
robot and how it functions. On average Tilted
Twister could solve almost any Rubik’s cube problem in less than 6
minutes. But seeing is believing, and Han’s blog also offers a video
of the robot going through the process of examining the cube and then
solving it.

The blog also offers information about Rubik’s Cube, the Lego
Mindstorms NXT kit used to create the robot and Hans Andersson
himself.
